I am also grateful that we started our travels when our kids were younger because I’m learning that some things only get more complicated as they age. Now that our kids are both teens, schedules are more complex, travel becomes more expensive ( we’re practically paying for four adults now), and we get a bit more pushback on things than when they were younger. Traveling with teens comes with its own set of unique challenges. But if I’m being honest, the challenges are worth it. My ❤️ is with Los Angeles. LA was my home for nearly a decade, and I don’t think a day goes by when I don’t try to convince my husband to move back down there.
I’m absolutely heartbroken to see what the fires have done and are still doing to these communities. For the last few days I’ve been glued to the tv and social media watching these events unfold. I’ve also been trying to figure out ways to help in any way that I can. Here are just a couple of places that I found to donate to help victims, both big and small. The holidays don’t have to be perfect. Everything doesn’t have to be exactly how it was the year before. It’s ok to cut corners. It’s ok if everything doesn’t fall exactly into place how you imagined it would.
These are all the things I keep telling myself repeatedly this Christmas season. Most years I can get it all done, this year I can’t. And it is ok. Accepting that everything is not going to be how I expected it to be is helping me get through this next week or so without wearing myself out. For me, it started with cookie dough. Of course I love making homemade cookies, but this year I needed a little help from Pillsbury. And guess what?! The kids appreciated and loved them just the same. This is just a little reminder to take some time for you and give yourself a little grace this Christmas season.
