I get a lot of questions about our family's summer European vacation. Most questions tend to be about booking and how I went about planning our vacation. One specific question…
Rome is one of my favorite cities anywhere in the world. I was reminded of why I loved it so much when our family spent three fantastic days there this…
This is day three of driving a Tuk Tuk around Sri Lanka with Large Minority.
Today was the longest drive of the trip and honestly, it was the toughest. I love that Large Minority is never more than a quick text away, because I honestly don’t know if we would’ve ever gotten up that mountain without them. 😫
Also, have you heard of Short Eats? If you’re ever in Sri Lanka, be sure to try as many of them as you can. We had a hard time finding one we didn’t like.
Have you seen my sunglasses? Seriously. These were my favorite sunglasses, and they’ve officially been missing for a year now. A whole year. And yes, I’m still sad about it.
I’ve actually been scrolling through old photos trying to retrace my steps and figure out the last time I wore them, because apparently this is who I am now, slightly unhinged over a pair of Kate Spade sunglasses from 2019. 😫
I guess I’m officially at the age where little things like this drive me absolutely crazy. A missing pair of sunglasses is what’s sending me over the edge. At this point I’m not sure what I’ve lost more, the sunglasses or my sanity.
Is it silly that I still have hope they’ll randomly turn up in a beach bag, the back of a drawer, or some mysterious pocket I’ve somehow missed 47 times? Please tell me I’m not alone. What’s something small you’ve lost that still haunts you to this day? #lost #lifeover50 #lifeover40 #momlife #whereismymind
What’s one of your favorite family trips? This list came up because I was curious if my favorite trips match my kid’s favorite trips. I asked them for their top five and compared their list to my husband‘s and mine, and the results actually surprised me.
I couldn’t believe that Greece didn’t make the cut. ( it’s one of my favorites) I was even more surprised that Ireland scored really high. ( We were only there four days.) What my little poll really showed me is how much timing can make or break a family trip. Where you go, what you do, and how old the kids are really matters.
We first visited Costa Rica back in 2019, so I thought it might fade from memory, but it’s still topped both of their lists, which showed me that some places just stick when the timing is right.
Now truth be told… Our road trip didn’t make either kids list, but I added it anyway with hopes that one day they’ll look back and think of all those crazy roadtrip memories as some of their fondest as well. I guess only time will tell. 😜
You can read more about some of our most loved destinations, and the ages the kids were when we went over on the blog right now. Link in bio. #familytravelblog #travelwithkids #travelinspo #familytravel #familytravelideas
If you’re still looking for a quick and easy Super Bowl appetizer, I’ve got you. This Five Layer Dip comes together in minutes and is always a crowd favorite. The full recipe is linked in my bio. #easyrecipes #easyappetizers #fivelayerdip #gamedayeats #partyideas @roteltomatoes
As promised, this is our second day of driving a Tuk Tuk around Sri Lanka. Day 2 was our first official day on the road with Large Minority.
Every day on these trips comes with a map, an itinerary, and a challenge. Each challenge is designed to pull you a little deeper and immerse you into the local culture.
I won’t lie… today’s challenge (and hike ) tested us, but the view? 100% worth every step.
And, can you believe somehow my blessing bracelet is still holding on today!
Oh! Tuk tuk tip of the day: invest in driving gloves. Tuk tuks are not kind to dainty hands. Follow along for Day 3 #tuktuklife #srilankatravels #adventuretravel #travelinspo #srilankatuktuk
Who would you invite? Easy answer: @maddy_pat_mad . A full week in a tuk tuk together and not a single boring moment. #roadtrip #roadtrips #tuktuk #srilankatravel #wanderlust
Who else loves this feeling? How lucky was I to wake to this beautiful sunrise on the first morning before we set off on our Sri Lanka tuk tuk roadtrip. I freaking love the feeling of waking up the first day in a new place. #beautifulsunrise #srilankatravels #vacationmode #travelinspo
This is day one of our 7-day tuk tuk road trip around Sri Lanka, and the learning curve was REAL.
An entire day dedicated to learning how to drive this thing… stalling included. There were definitely moments I thought, there’s no way I can do this.
But one of the biggest takeaways from this trip was realizing I’m capable of so much more than I give myself credit for. Sometimes all it takes is showing up, messing up a little, and trying anyway.
This was just day one… and the tuk tuk adventure was only getting started. Follow for part two. Also a big shout out and thank you to @mikeandashleytravel for letting me use some of your fantastic drone footage! Be sure to check them out for some fantastic travel, inspiration.
Happy February! Is it just me, or did January feel like some weird half-awake, long, foggy, and slightly disorienting dream?
Honestly though, this January wasn’t all that bad, Long yes. But also, fairly productive. Sneaking in a little Disneyland getaway mid-month definitely helped break up the endless January-ness.
I finally caught up on editing I’d been putting off and am finally sharing more of our Sri Lanka travels - which feels really good after a slow, scattered start to the year.
Here’s to shorter months, clearer heads, and more moments that feel like magic! #disneymoments #happyfebruary #januaryblues #lookingforward
Driving a tuk tuk through Sri Lanka was equal parts chaotic, challenging, and unforgettable - and I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!
I truly can’t imagine taking on an adventure like this with anyone other than @largeminority . They take care of the itinerary, maintenance, and lodging, while still leaving room for the kind of unplanned moments that end up being the best part.
This is the first of a series I’ve been editing together from our tuk tuk road trip, so stick around for part two and more tuk tuk chaos.
You can read more about the experience in the link in my bio and also grab 5% off a tuk tuk adventure of your own. #srilankatravel #tuktuktours #travelideas #srilankatuktuk #wanderlust
If you could go anywhere right now - where would you go?And let’s make it more interesting… it doesn’t have to be present day. Past or future, what are you choosing? Lately, staying focused and positive has been harder than usual. When I should be working or writing, my mind drifts, and somehow I end up researching summer adventures instead. I don’t just want a vacation. I want something that feels truly memorable. So tell me… where (or when) are you going? I need inspiration. #travelinspo #whereareyougoing #momlifebelike #summertravel #disneycaliforniaadventure
With everything that’s been happening these past few days, I’ve felt almost paralyzed - struggling to form a coherent thought, let alone show up and post the content I had planned.
It feels strange, and honestly a little silly, to carry on as usual while so much pain and suffering is happening in the world every single day.
I’ve never been someone who likes to get political here, but I also don’t believe that empathy, compassion, or standing up for basic human rights should be considered political.
So for now, I’m holding space for the heaviness and anger. And choosing to lead with humanity, even when I don’t have the right words.
