Headed to Greece? Here’s the Ultimate Greece Packing List

There’s something about Greece that makes you pack differently.

After packing for Italy the previous summer, I quickly realized Greece called for a completely different wardrobe. Instead of linen pants, comfortable walking shoes, and outfits that could take me from museums to dinner, I found myself reaching for breezy dresses, swimsuits, sandals, and lightweight pieces that felt right at home on the islands.

During our nearly two weeks exploring Athens, Santorini, and Naxos, I wore almost everything I packed and almost nothing I would have packed for Italy.

Greece is effortlessly stylish, but it’s also wonderfully relaxed. Your days are likely to be spent wandering whitewashed villages, lounging on the beach, hopping on ferries, and lingering over long dinners by the sea. That means your suitcase should focus on versatile, lightweight pieces that can keep up with it all without weighing you down.

If you’re wondering what to pack for Greece in the summer, here’s exactly what I’d bring again.

My Greece Packing List Philosophy

When packing for Greece, I keep it simple:

Dresses (The MVP of My Suitcase)

I practically lived in dresses during our trip.
Pack 4 to 5 dresses:
  • 2 casual daytime dresses
  • 1 flowy maxi dress
  • 1 versatile midi dress
  • 1 slightly dressier dinner dress
You’ll be surprised how often you reach for them.

Tops

Pack 4 to 5 tops
  • 2 to 3 tank tops
  • 1 to 2 lightweight tees
  • 1 linen or gauze long-sleeve button-down (can double as a cover-up)
  • 1 lightweight sweater for breezy ferry rides or late evenings

Bottoms

I’d pack:
  • 2 pairs of shorts or skirts
  • 1 flowy skirt
  • Optional lightweight linen pants

Swimwear

If you are visiting the islands, you’ll probably spend more time in a swimsuit than anything else.
I’d bring:
  • 2 to 3 swimsuits
  • 1 cover-up
  • Rash guard (optional if you’re out on boats a lot)

Shoes

I packed:
I wore sneakers far less than I expected.

Undergarments & Sleepwear

  •  5–6 Underwear
  •  1–2 Bras
  •  2–3 Pairs of Socks
  •  Pajamas

Accessories

Toiletries

Besides the basics, I’d definitely bring:

My Airplane Essentials

These are always in my personal item with me on the plane:

Final Thoughts

Packing for Greece is refreshingly simple. With warm weather, laid-back island vibes, and plenty of beach time, you’ll likely reach for breezy dresses, swimsuits, and comfortable sandals more than anything else.

One piece of advice? Leave a little extra room in your suitcase. My daughter and I couldn’t resist the charming boutiques scattered throughout the islands, and we both came home with a few new dresses that have become some of our favorite travel souvenirs. Sometimes the best thing you pack is a little extra space.
