Five Cup Salad

Five Cup Salad

Five Cup Salad is an old-school recipe that has been around for ages – and for good reason.  It’s simple, delicious, and always a crowd pleaser.  Also known as Ambrosia Salad, this sweet yet tangy side dish is a staple at summer barbecues, holiday gatherings, and potlucks alike.

This version is a little different. Why?

Well, technically, this particular recipe is a Six Cup Salad.  I add a cup of chopped pecans, which gives this salad an extra buttery crunch that makes it irresistible.  It’s a tiny twist, but trust me… it makes a big difference.

A Side Dish, Not a Dessert

Although Five Cup Salad leans toward the sweet side, it’s traditionally served as a side dish, not a dessert. The tanginess from the sour cream or yogurt balances the sweetness from the fruit and marshmallows, making it a refreshing complement to grilled meats and picnic classics.
Whether you’re hosting a summer cookout or looking for an easy potluck dish, this vintage salad never goes out of style.
